Hi there!

My name is Garrett and I’m a writer from California.

I have a decade’s worth of short stories and criticism scattered across the internet, but for a sense of my current work, I recommend “Are You Not Mine?” forthcoming in West Branch, “Laying the Burden Down” in Angel Food (2025), and “Indulgences” in The Florida Review (2024).

I earned an MFA in fiction writing from the University of Colorado Boulder and a PhD in Creative Writing & Literature from the University of Utah, where I held the Jeff Metcalf Humanities in the Community Fellowship and won the Richard Scowcroft Prize for fiction (selected by Kathryn Davis). I’ve taught creative writing and literature classes at universities, colleges, arts schools, and prison education programs across the country.
